e(v)olocity
Self-titled on Nuerra Records
Their name, e(v)olocity, is the conjoining of words ‘evolution’ and
‘velocity;’ - two powerful nouns that quintessentially suit this larger-than-
life band.
Immediately erupting from your stereo speakers, e(v)olocity’s self-titled
release reaches forth grabbing hold of listeners and 14 songs later they
still haven’t let go.
Produced by Bill Kennedy of Megadeth and Nine Inch Nails fame, and
mixed by Toby Wright (Korn, Alice In Chains) and John Gray (Soulfly) how
could this album not be a powerhouse of progressive, rocking tunes?
Jazz on lead guitar, Melon on bass, Cor(e) on drums, and Raydn 1 on
keyboards, sax, and guitar, and Aaron on lead vocals - - - most of their
names might be a little unusual, but these guys know how to write and
perform quality music.
Kicking off the disc is “Too Far,” a dynamo of a song with a nice
progression which builds to a controlled chaos. It’s bombastic with
modern guitar work and behemoth vocals.
Next up is my favorite on this album, “4th Wise Man,” a heady rocker with
a bold and brawny chorus, then the catchy “Duh Wayne,” which leads into
the bold and brawny “Herbie (Doesn’t Like to Make Toys).”
Another favorite on this disc is the funky “Cockeyed” augmented by a
sexy and unique bass line.
“Dark” begins with almost a Primus-undercurrent musically, then slithers
into a hypnotic, latently dangerous tune – probably the most controlled of
all the songs on this disc, but one to take note of.
Another solid rocker is “Set You Free,” and then “Troop Support” - like
many of the songs on this album - displays Aaron’s vocal power and
chutzpah.
Other songs include: “Natural Drag,” “Quick And Easy,” “Crutch,” “Dog
Lover,” and “Pyramids.” There is honestly not one weak song on this
entire collection.
Keep on the look-out for these guys, if not, they’ll run you right over with
their bass-throbbing steamroller of attitude and rock and roll know-how.
